Still Struggling with Producers and Consumers

Produsers and Produsage | ATOM2006 | Teaching with Technology |

My colleague Stephen Barrass from the University of Canberra sends on a link to Todd Richmond's models for producer/consumer and teacher/student relations in analog, digital, and transitional environments (via Howard Rheingold's Smart Mobs blog) - including images like the following:

Transitional Media

Looking at this, I really can't help but suggest the concept of produsage once again. My presentation at ATOM2006 addressed the question of teaching the produsers to some extent - I'll have to see how compatible it is with Todd's descriptions. His 'delta' as a measure of the power asymmetry between producers and consumers is certainly worth considering - in my produsage model, this could also be translated into a measure of the possible spread between higher and lower levels of engagement in produsage within the overall produsage project...
